Create An Impressive Resume Using These Tips And Tricks

So how does a recruiter calls people for interviews or how do you sell yourself to a company before getting called for an interview? The very obvious answer is if your resume is impressive and up to date, your chances of being called for the interview increase a lot. A resume acts as a bridge between you and the recruiter and the importance of a resume can never be underestimated.

In order to make a good first impression, it is imperative that your resume stands out from the crowd. Since companies do not have a lot of time to interview each and every candidate, they ask for resumes from candidates and select the ones that work the best for them. Resume reaches the recruiter’s table much earlier than you do, and therefore it should always be impressive.

In this article, you can find a few tips, tricks, and hacks to make your resume impressive.

  1. Tell Your Story: The recruiter doesn’t want to know all the places you’ve worked at. Think of your resume as a marketing document that will sell you as the perfect person for the job and not as a comprehensive list of your career history. For each resume, you send out, highlight only the accomplishments and skills that are relevant for that job.
  2. Keep a master list of Jobs: Since you’ll be sending out different resumes for different jobs and creating a new resume every time can be a time-consuming task sometimes. Keep a master resume on your computer which has all the information you have ever included on a resume, be it an old position in a company or special projects are undertaken. When you’re crafting a resume, it will save a lot of time because all you will need to do is cut and paste the relevant information.
  3. Put your Best work on top: The recruiter doesn’t have a lot of time to go through all the resumes thoroughly. To get noticed by the recruiter, make sure all your best and relevant accomplishments and experiences are placed on top because that top section is what the recruiter/hiring manager is going to see first and will notify you as the potential fit for the job.
  4. Career Objective: This section should be very crisp and precise. Try to write it in such a way that the recruiter knows about you and your professional aspirations. This is a very important section as it is the most eye-catching section and works as the first impression. Along with the Career objective, at the corner of the page don’t forget to add a very formal photograph of yourself. The size of the picture shouldn’t be too large nor it should be too small, the hiring manager should be able to see the picture.
  5. Chronological order: A very important thing to keep in mind while drafting your resume is that it should be very organized. Right from your experiences to your skills, everything should be in chronological order with your latest experiences being on the top. If your resume is not ordered properly, it can annoy the recruiter and you may lose your chance.
  6. Keep it Concise: The information on your resume is supposed to be concise and for doing that try to keep the resume limited to one page only. If you have enough relevant and important experience, credentials, etc. to showcase on more than one page then go for it.
  7. Keep it Simple: People think that using bright colors for the template and big font size will make the resume look attractive, but the reality is it looks very unprofessional. Use a very basic white template and use font types like Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri. Font size shouldn’t be too large or too small, make it easy to read for the hiring managers by using a font size between 10 and 12. Using a different typeface for your Name, resume headers, name of the organization works well, but try to keep it very simple and keep it consistent.

These are some very basic tips to create an impressive resume and it will work well for the freshers or people who are going to make resumes for the first time. Applying these tips while making your resume will definitely make your resume stand out and will increase your chance of getting an interview.
